Two Tips To Ensure Your Sensitive Skin Enjoys Your First Hotel Stay

Planning your first holiday away is an exciting time for you. However, as someone who has very sensitive skin, you must also consider the impact hotel sheets could have on your holiday. Being unprepared will leave you with irritated skin that will detract from the fun times you have planned. Keep these points in mind as you start making your hotel booking for your holiday away.

Special Request At Hotel

When making an online hotel booking or talking to the reservation operator on the phone, make a special request to have sheets washed in a hypoallergenic detergent. Not all hotels will be able to fulfil this request, but you don't know unless you ask. Make sure you give at least seven days notice of your need so the housekeeping department has plenty of time to prepare this request before you arrive.

Hotels use stronger detergent than the average home, as preventing cross infection through their linen is vital to a hotel's reputation. If they do not have hypoallergenic sheets available, you will need to consider Plan B.

Take Your Own Bedding

Taking your bedding from home may seem a little extreme, but you only need two sheets and one pillowcase to ward off an allergy flare-up. If you are travelling to your holiday destination by plane, however, the extra weight these items add to your luggage may be a problem for you.

If plane travel is part of your trip, purchase a lightweight sleeping bag you can take with you instead. You can buy sleeping bags at both department stores and sports goods retailers. By washing the sleeping bag at home with your own hypoallergenic laundry detergent before you leave, you don't need to worry about your skin coming into contact with the hotel bedding. Sleeping bags can be rolled up small so they take up minimal space in your suitcase.

Don't forget to pack a travel towel in your suitcase as well. Travel towels are compact enough not to take up much suitcase room, but allow you to dry off after a shower without having to use towels washed in hotel detergent.

Once you are all packed up and ready to go on your holiday, double-check to make sure you have packed your supplies of anti-histamine creams, tablets and other allergy-fighting medications so you can make your holiday a happy one. Considering your sensitive skin in advance means you will have a scratch-free holiday.
